If there was ever a place where the world appears through rose-tinted glasses, it's Fairview House. Living up to its name as it looks over an idyllic scene of mist-infused mountains and fynbos-covered valleys. These views even inspired two novels written by the family matriarch! Once a hand-built home, Fairview has been transformed into a impeccably styled boutique hotel with South African artwork and touches to remind of its heritage - the ornate fireplace makes for a cosy spot to curl up. Tucked away from the fast lane, Fairview is an inviting refuge with the beauties of the Garden Route within arm's reach.

Fairview House stays true to its roots with an intimate and homegrown feel. Inspired by the works of South African painter, Irma Stern, the interiors are neutral with pops of striking colour - from the dining room's orange feature wall with a monkey motif to oil paintings on loan from the Everard Read Gallery. Tuck into well-planned cuisine made with locally-sourced ingredients; on the terrace in summer and warmed by the wood-burning stove in winter. There are a number of elegant lounges, one even enjoys a bar and grand piano. On hot days, the pool provides a secluded spot amongst the greenery.
Fairview has the option of rooms in the Main or Coach House. The style is Scandinavian and minimalist with a cool grey palette (punctuated by bursts of yellow or powder blue decor), textured wooden furnishings and plush, patterned rugs. In the Main House, luxury rooms enjoy a balcony with sweeping views while the garden rooms in the Coach House offer private verandas leading onto manicured lawns. The air-conditioned rooms all have a snug sitting area, en-suite bathroom with marble countertops, shower and handmade ShweShwe robes (some have a freestanding tub) and TV. The Deluxe Suite also enjoys an adjoining children's room.
Fairview House is just removed enough for a peaceful getaway, but there's also many a sight to see. Journey down the coast for a spot of whalewatching at Keurbooms Beach (you might even see an orca at the right time of year), sail out to find the seals of Plettenberg Bay and trek along idyllic coastal trails. For an adrenaline boost, the Crags is known for its fantastic canyoning! Enjoy a spot of wine tasting at a nearby vineyard, hike through the forests of Nature's Valley or soak up the sun at one of the many blue flag beaches.
The history of this once-upon-a-time farmhouse mixed with all the modern comforts. Country living at its best!
If you're heading out for a day of exploring, be sure to ask the chef to whip up a basket of picnic goodies.
There are plenty of road trips to explore, but don't miss out on the bliss of reading a good book on the lawns.
