Elegant and minimalistic, stylish without trying too hard, this spanking-new lodge is designed to make an impression but not to stand out. Approaching by a vehicle the main lodge is camouflaged against the woodland with its thatched roof and wood and clay structures. Looking out onto the Kalahari plains, the main deck enjoys 180 degree views; it also incorporates a truly refreshing (and large) lap pool. There's a decent gym-with-a-view if you fancy staying active while keeping an eye out for game. Healthy, creative cuisine is served in the undercover dining area by day, or out on the lamp-lit verandah by night. You'll find a library well-curated with books on the region and a bar stocked with international wines and a thorough array of libations and refreshments of any sort.
The six gorgeous villas will convert even the most determined abstainer-of-the-finer-things with their sheer beauty of design. The two-story structure maximizes views from the open bedroom and glassed in bathroom, to the extensive deck that reaches out in front (and incorporates a 4x6 meter pool!). A king sized bed, draped with a sheer mosquito net, is the centre piece of the room, leading into a large lounge area with a day bed that can be converted into a bed for children. Bathrooms have double basins and a large shower and free-standing bath. A fan helps keep things cool, as does the small fridge, stocked with your favorite frosties.
The list of activities available at Feline Fields is extensive. Not only will you find the more traditional safari offerings - game drives, night drives and game walks - but several other bush-going experiences, too: walks with a local San Bushman, guided bike rides, horse riding safaris and a sleep-out in a luxury fly-camp away from camp. For an extra-special cultural experience, witness a traditional Bushman trance dance - a magical, mysterious ceremony around a campfire. Take a trip to the nearby Gcwihaba Caves - a proposed World Heritage Site - where you'll explore an underground network of caves filled with fascinating mineral growths. Test your golf swing on the desert driving range, practice your forehand on the clay tennis court, sweat it out at the gym or lap it up in the pool. Alternatively, be completely happy doing absolutely 'nada'.
