Set in its own private concession just 18km south of the renowned Chitabe area, Gomoti Plains Camp embodies the seasoned expertise of the Machaba team. Drawing on their success with Machaba and Little Machaba camps, the owners have created an intimate retreat that captures the essence of an authentic Botswana safari experience. This chic, modern camp pairs perfectly with the beauty of the region and the diversity of activities on offer.

Nestled into evergreen riparian woodland, the main area, comprising a canvas-covered lounge and dining room, is built on slightly raised wooden decks overlooking a shallow lagoon on the Gomoti River. Typically, though, dining takes place outside either under the shade or under the stars. The decor is clean and elegant in its simplicity. Outside, there's a large sandy area, home to the communal campfire ringed by comfy camp chairs.
There are ten luxury tents, including two family units which can sleep four. The spacious tents sit raised on wooden decks and are decorated in a classic safari style with straight canvas lines, crisp white linen and other earthy tones. Each room has a shaded front verandah which together with the floor-to-ceiling mesh sides, allow sweeping views of the river and surrounding bush. Ensuite bathrooms have twin basins and indoor and outdoor showers and there's electricity available for charging appliances.
Gomoti Plains offers the full spectrum of activities. Game drives (day and night) in open Land Cruisers will get you up close to all the big and hairies, as well as introduce you to an off-road driving experience like no other. Getting out on the water can be both peaceful and exhilarating, and offers you the chance to see hippos and crocodiles (from the motorboat) as well as waterlilies and reed frogs (from mokoro). You can even do a bit of fishing. Last but not least, bush walks will get you to use all your senses as your guide opens your eyes and ears to a too-often unnoticed world.
Predator viewing here is about as good as it gets, with a decent chance of seeing wild dogs, cheetah, leopards, hyenas and lions.
Take it easy on your deck and soak up your front row view of the Gomoti River, full of fantastic bird life.
Gomoti Plains offers the best of the Okavango - great game viewing and the full range of activities to make the best of it. The comfortable, friendly atmosphere is a bonus.
Gomoti Plains Camp is owned by Machaba Safaris which deeply values the communities in Botswana and Zimbabwe, and feeds back into them through education, empowerment, and conservation initiatives. They support local schools and programs while working with communities to protect fragile ecosystems and promote human-wildlife coexistence. Addressing infrastructure needs, they provide essentials like water and sustainable gardens. Visitors can contribute through donations, volunteering, or simply by choosing Machaba Safaris for their safari experience.
