About Honeyguide Khoka Moya Tented Camp

Big Five safari and other delights – away from the crowds.
Set in the 23,000-hectare private Manyeleti Game Reserve in the Greater Kruger area, this upmarket, contemporary-style camp offers a full-on safari with all the trimmings – large tents that sleep up to four guests, great food and dining, and wildlife that roams freely through the camp. Situated on two sides of a riverbed and surrounded by lawns and a lovely pool, the open-sided main area hits just the right note of comfort in the wilderness, with the safety factor a priority. Come here to see all the most charismatic species, with more relaxed restrictions than those in the national park.

Property details

The property

The raised main area, with its tin roof, open sides and wooden floors, is set in a shady grove, with up-close views of the waterhole and the bush beyond. Here, long communal tables are where you'll take your meals (kudos to the chef!), and there's plenty of colour in the various seating areas. At its heart is a sunken fire pit, perfect for storytelling and stargazing at night. Green lawns lead to the pool, with sunloungers and plenty of shade.

The rooms

The 15 slightly raised tents are enormous rectangular structures, with decor that is simple, elegant and very comfortable. Entry is via an open-air furnished porch, and through foldaway canvas flaps and a mesh zip door. Inside, there's a king-sized bed (or two twins), kitted with mosquito netting and good quality linens. At the foot of the bed is a large day bed for lolling and gazing, and, to one side, a desk. En-suite bathrooms have double showers and double basins.

Activities

The camp's location on a private conservancy offers several benefits not available in neighbouring Kruger: guided walking safaris, night drives, and less crowded viewings. The guides are amazing – simply tell them what you'd like to see, and voila! Nevertheless, Kruger is definitely worth visiting. This is Big Five country, so you're highly likely to see the major bush players, along with giraffe, hyena, cheetah, antelope and birds galore, plus lesser-known creatures like bushbaby and pangolin. You'll not be disappointed!
