About Hotel AWA

A chic lakeside hotel with buckets of style and Patagonia's beauty spots in easy reach.
As is the case for many Patagonian hotels, AWA is anything but typical. A passion project for architect, designer and owner, Mauricio Fuentes (who lives just next door), Hotel AWA is many things all at once, with blocks of exposed concrete, inspired by Chilean traditions, meeting multi-storey windows that gaze across Lake Llanquihue to the snowy pinnacle of the Osorno Volcano. Adventure is at your fingertips with kayaking excursions across the indigo lake, hikes through ancient forests to spot Patagonia's curious wildlife, and heli flips over the volcanic peaks. It's days like this that make Hotel AWA's plush, artfully-designed interiors all the more special.

Property details

The property

The exteriors of AWA feature tranquil water features and exposed concrete facades, while inside, you'll find lounges warmed by roaring fires, soft furnishings, and shelves lined with books and handicrafts. Expansive windows dominate the dining room and are almost enough to distract from the buffets of homemade pastries, breads, cereals and fruit for breakfast and Chilean dinners of empanadas and seafood ceviche, followed by a Tra Kal and toffee pudding and cocktail at the bar. The spa boasts a massage cabin, a heated pool and a whirlpool, as well as a hammam.

The rooms

Each room features Mapuche textiles, volcanic stone walls with a fireplace, and plenty of bold artworks. The super-King or twin beds face vast glass windows with views over the lake and Osorno Volcano, while the four larger suites enjoy a living room, small bar and a private balcony (in three of them). The bathrooms are done in tones of slate-grey with porthole windows, a large power-shower and whirlpool bathtub. Right on the lakeshore, there is a private villa with four bedrooms, six bathrooms and its own dining room and kitchen.

Activities

Every day offers new possibilities for adventure. Take to the water with a kayaking trip on the lake or down the Petrohue River, or embark on a Class 3 rafting adventure. Explore the beautiful surrounds on a hike into the Andes with volcanic peaks to marvel at in every direction, or along Desolation Pass where the glaciers below Osorno Volcano come into full view. You can also enter Alerce Andino National Park to spot pudu, guina and the tiny monito del monte marsupial, or ride horseback through the nearby forests.
