About Kigali Serena Hotel

Travel and trekking is hard work – indulge in some five-star pampering
This large, modern hotel in central Kigali lies just 10 kilometres from Kigali International Airport, so it's the perfect stopover before returning home. It's a large hotel, popular for weddings and conferences (held fortunately in a large stand-alone conference and events centre). The rooms are quiet though, so take some down time, enjoy the varied cuisine at the restaurants, wander around the lush gardens and laze beside the pool. And do visit the blissful spa.

Property details

The property

From the boulevard, enter the hotel's polished granite atrium lined with some of Rwanda's best cultural artworks. Later, enjoy the variety of restaurants and light eateries that cater for every taste. The Milima, for example, offers an all-day buffet; the Sokoni Café, with its indoor and poolside seating, has a more relaxed atmosphere and menu. On Sundays, experience Rwandese life as local families throng to the Sokoni Restaurant for long, relaxed lunches. A bar overlooks the swimming pool. Wi-fi throughout.

The rooms

The 148 rooms cater for all budgets, from standard and superior to suites and the grand Presidential Suite. Whatever your choice, all the rooms are spacious, with aircon, satellite TV (check it's working before accepting the room), twin or king-sized beds, and an en-suite bathroom with both tub and a good shower. The style is pan-African, the rooms are clean and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Activities

If you're simply overnighting, you'll probably only have time to enjoy the food, the pool and maybe a treatment at the spa. For families with young children, there's also a baby pool. Staying a little longer? Explore Kigali (ask for advice at reception), visit the sobering Kigali Genocide Memorial and admire the bright artworks at the Inema Gallery.

What you'll love

What you'll love

Having your muscles massaged to butter at the Moorish-themed 'Maisha’ Mind Body and Spirit Spa, especially if you've just returned from a gorilla trek.
Insiders tip

Insiders Tip

Definitely book a room with a pool view; it's especially beautiful in the evenings.
Something to think about

Something to think about

The hotel is very, very large so don't expect an intimate atmosphere or any of those boutique touches.

Rwanda

Kigali

Clean, pretty and supremely peaceful, the capital is a cosmopolitan place with a sobering history.
