About Knysna Houseboats

A water-based houseboat breakaway on Knysna's tranquil lagoon.
Knysna is a lively seaside town, with lots to do in the area and the scope to explore at your own pace on a self-drive houseboat. No experience is needed – a brief skipper’s course will show you all you need to know for a safe enjoyable experience, with a back-up option of on-hand staff to help if necessary with mooring and other boat-related issues. Each boat is fully kitted out to rigorous safety standards. A permanently moored cottage on the water offers a second more spacious option, with all facilities required for a comfortable self-catering stay on the water.

Property details

The property

Each houseboat is fully equipped for a group of four adults, or family of five, with a sleeping area, galley kitchen and compact bathroom and shower. On chilly days, retreat to the cosy cabin, or fire up the barbecue on the outer deck and soak up some summer sunshine. A permanently moored timber floating cottage - converted from one of Knysna's original houseboats - offers a more spacious self-catering option a mere two minutes by dinghy from the Waterfront.

The rooms

On-board facilities include a double bed, and a fold-away dining area which converts into an additional double bed. A further folding bench can be used as a child’s bed if needed. All self-catering equipment is supplied, or you could take a break and have a range of delicious local dishes delivered to you. The converted timber cottage was once one of the original Knysna houseboats, with two double bedrooms, bath and shower, cheery maritime décor and an indoor fireplace.

Activities

Cruise the tranquil waterways, drop a fishing line over the side, and enjoy quality family time watching the scenery slide past with a cold drink in hand. Nothing beats sunbathing out on the deck and a refreshing swim in the warm summer shallows, and winter boardgame sessions onboard are lots of fun. Knysna Waterfront, with excellent restaurants, shopping facilities and nearby adventure activities, is just a short hop across the lagoon if you feel like something a bit more lively.
