About Kwara Camp

Great game viewing in the Okavango's most diverse region
Kwara is all about the wildlife experience. The private concession in the north-eastern Okavango Delta is commonly regarded as having some of the best game viewing in Botswana. Regular sightings of Africa's large predators mean it's a fabulous spot for those dying to see lion, leopard, wild dogs etc. Kwara sits at the junction of a huge expanse of dry land to the north, and permanent floodplains and deep channels to the west, making both water and land-based activities available year-round. The camp is simple, yet comfortable, and most importantly provides access to one of the Okavango's most productive areas.

Property details

The property

Set amongst leadwood, mangosteen and knobthorn trees, the main area is nicely shaded and has a warm, down-to-earth atmosphere. The bar and lounge area is a lovely place to unwind between activities; the nearby curio shop stocks local crafts and souvenirs for the retail-inclined. Along with the adjoining thatched dining room, this elevated central area has a clear view of the lagoon. The heart of the camp though, is the fireplace in the sand, around which early morning breakfast and evening drinks are served.

The rooms

There are eight tents well spaced between the evergreen feverberries and mangosteens, each with an elevated view of the surrounding floodplain and lagoon. The tents are simple, yet comfortable with a large double bed and an en-suite bathroom, complete with an open-air shower. The honeymoon tent also has an outdoor bathtub. Each tent has a small veranda with a couple of deck chairs that links to the bedroom by a large mesh sliding door, maximising space and light.

Activities

Kwara holds four aces when it comes to activities. The game drives are lead by a guide and tracker combination and are as good as any in Botswana. There are a substantial amount of papyrus-fringed channels and clear-water lagoons in which to find emblematic hippos and crocodiles on a motorboat - or if you're up to it, throw in a fishing line. Spend an afternoon like no other exploring the shallow floodplains in a mokoro. And awaken your senses on a walk in the wilderness.
