Property details

The property

Both North and South camps have individual thatched central areas for their guests, although South Camp may have the edge with its communal area raised on stilts to improve the view. Both lounges are welcoming, with African artwork and carvings, and plush sofas and chairs that invite you to settle back and admire your surroundings. Each camp also has a swimming pool, recliners and a deck on which meals (expect the best) are often served.

The rooms

Tents at both North and South Camp have been designed to the same specs. Octagonal in shape and roofed in thatch, they are raised slightly off the ground with views of the lake. The furnishings are sumptuous, with large beds, full-length mirrors, dressers and even a writing desk on the private veranda. The bathroom is an extension of the bedroom, complete with his and hers sinks, an outside shower and hot running water.

Activities

Nyerere National Park is one of the best destinations in Africa for out-of-vehicle experiences. Take a boating safari and encounter the region's wildlife from a different, often less-threatening position. Cruise with a cocktail in hand on a leisurely pontoon trip. Set off on a guided bush walk for an in-depth look at the wilderness, focusing on the small species and intimacies of nature you miss from a vehicle. And finally, always a winner, is a game drive to follow the numerous predators, elephant, buffalo and more.

What you'll love

Siwandu really does give you the best of both wildlife and luxury: the incredible game viewing is complemented by beautiful tents and there's a definite emphasis on pampering and relaxation in between activities.

Insiders Tip

The boat cruises at Siwandu are some of the best on the continent so don your sea legs, hope on board and get eye-to-eye with the incredible prehistoric crocodiles lazing in the water.
Something to think about

Something to think about

The camp is incredibly remote and hidden deep in the bush. For some, this will be utterly blissful, but beware that communications are limited and you certainly won't find any Wifi here - only wilderness!
