About Linyanti Expeditions

Botswana's wild northern reaches, where nature is king.
Set in the magnificent water-rich northern reaches of Botswana, between Savuti Marsh and Chobe National Park, Linyanti Expeditions taps into the best of the region. This tented camp is both rustic and elegant in the vein of old-style safaris. You certainly can't fault its setting. This area is well-known for its varied habitats – rivers, swamps, floodplains, grasslands and woodlands – and their attendant wildlife. Elephants are especially prolific during the drier months, but there are good numbers of lion, hippo, wild cats, wild dog and rarer antelope species like sable, roan and sitatunga year-round.

Property details

The property

The camp pivots around two long tents, where eating, relaxing and socialising are warm and hearty occasions. Stretched canvas, anchored by ropes, covers the open-sided lounge, with its sofas lined with colourful pillows, bookshelves and interesting bush artefacts. The dining room's long wooden table is surrounded by a modern take on camp chairs, and lit by unusual low-hanging light fittings. Outside, the campfire is surrounded by canvas chairs from which to gaze across the landscape to the horizon.

The rooms

The six tents set on platforms are simply but beautifully appointed. They're undeniably classic in design, with smart updates such as netted gazebo extensions for sleeping beneath the stars. Inside each, the main room has a double bed with luscious bedding. There's a small dressing area with cupboards to keep you organised. The attached bathroom has a basin, flush toilet and a bucket shower that can be filled with hot water on request.

Activities

Action in these parts can be dramatic, especially with such a healthy population of wild dogs, whose frenzied yet organised hunting style makes for riveting game viewing. Watch elephants bathe and play in the river, and cross deeper channels with their trunks held aloft. Day or night game drives and mokoro cruises are magnificent, but we recommend guided walking safaris for some thrilling bush sightings. Game is good year-round; best elephant and zebra sightings occur in the dry season (May–October).

Insiders tip

Insiders Tip

Spot the African wild dogs. These creatures are some of the most charismatic and thrilling characters in the bush. An interesting fact: Wild dogs are not scavengers; they prefer to hunt down prey such as impala and zebra and start feeding immediately, while their catch is fresh (often not yet dead!).
Something to think about

Something to think about

Each tent is equipped with a mesh-enclosed extension that's perfect if you enjoy counting stars as you fall asleep. However, the bird chorus at dawn will wake you which might not suit everyone.
