A tented main area is comprised of a bar, a dining room and a cosy lounge, all with views across the Khwai river floodplain into Moremi Game Reserve. Set among giant knobthorns, leadwoods and the name-giving sycamore figs, the camp doubles as a stage for the constant procession of wildlife (including elephants, buffalo, lions and the ever-present vervet monkeys). There's a small library and a welcoming pool, as well as a spa therapist on hand to enhance your sense of relaxation. Because of the intimate size of the camp, the main area feels like an extention of your own home.
There are only two standard tents and two family (double) tents at Little Machaba. The rooms are light and airy, with most of the tent sides consisting of large mesh windows, making it feel like you're one with the surrounding bush. Each tent is built on a raised wooden platform, linked to the main area by a winding walkway. Elegant en-suite bathrooms have both indoor and outdoor showers and a double washbasin. A private lounge and a small verandah provide a comfortable, quiet space to relax in in addition to the main area.
Game drives in Moremi, although not entirely exclusive (because self-drive visitors are also allowed), are very productive and often yield sightings of lions, leopards, and wild dogs. Back on the private Khwai community concession, you can carry on with a night drive and try an keep up with a pack of hyenas, or spot an elusive honey badger. Also on the concession - a morning bush walk lead by an expert guide, provides a beneath-the-surface look into nature's intricacies; or, glean novel insights into rural life through a visit to the nearby village.
Little Machaba Camp is owned by Machaba Safaris which deeply values the communities in Botswana and Zimbabwe, and feeds back into them through education, empowerment, and conservation initiatives. They support local schools and programs while working with communities to protect fragile ecosystems and promote human-wildlife coexistence. Addressing infrastructure needs, they provide essentials like water and sustainable gardens. Visitors can contribute through donations, volunteering, or simply by choosing Machaba Safaris for their safari experience.
