About Machaba Camp

Okavango exploration in classic 1950's safari style

Machaba Camp is tucked away on the sycamore fig-sheltered bank of the Khwai River to the east of the Okavango Delta. Here, 10 stunningly luxurious tents provide tranquil comfort to visitors returning from a day in the delta. The camp overlooks the river to Moremi Game Reserve, where thick wooded areas are the perfect habitat for leopard and abundant wild dog. From the tent, watch predators and plains game wandering down to the river to drink, and inspect the diverse birdlife in the surrounding lagoons.

Property details

The property

The tented main area overlooking the river is the place to enjoy breakfast accompanied by a chorus of birds twittering, tweeting and cawing. Food is extremely good here, as one would expect from a camp of this calibre. There is also ample room to curl up on comfy sofas and read up on the wildlife with a book from the substantial library. Beside the communal area, the secluded swimming pool offers plenty of shade and loungers for relaxing.

The rooms

Machaba has 10 luxury twin- or double-bed canvas tents, two of which are family tents with two bedrooms. Raised above the ground on a concrete platform, each has an en-suite bathroom with stylish indoor and outdoor showers, double basins and flush toilets, and the traditional safari-camp ambience has been achieved with a liberal but considered use of leather, canvas and wood. The tents open to private verandas with comfortable chairs from which to absorb the surroundings, or to doze.

Activities

Excellent guides lead visitors on game drives by day or night. Get really close to the wildlife and little creatures on a walking safari with an experienced guide and armed guard. Explore the river and its creatures, or watch the never-ending stream of animals at the river from your veranda. Birdwatchers will be in avian heaven here.
