A wide stone terrace curves around the front of the double-storeyed main guesthouse, which overlooks the forested slopes and the valley below. At the edge of the lawns is a delightful thatched area where traditional dancers and choirs often perform. Downstairs is a spacious lounge with comfortable couches and chairs around an open fireplace, a small library area, and an open-plan dining room and kitchen that comes fully equipped for those who prefer to self-cater.
In the main house, the comfortable rustic rooms range across two floors, with a double room and two twin rooms downstairs, and two singles, two twins, and a large family room upstairs. All share four lower-floor bathrooms. A short stroll from the main house leads to two traditional Basotho-style thatched huts, one for a group of up to four people, and a larger one with three double rooms and a shared bathroom.
Affectionately called "The Kingdom in the Sky", Lesotho is a hiker's dream. There are a number of short trails nearby, and longer guided walks to a rocky outcrop with beautifully preserved dinosaur footprints. Birdwatching is superb, especially in the forests and at the dams. Take short pony-trekking trails, or longer, more strenuous treks that include an overnight stay in a traditional Basotho village. Visit Morija’s historic sites and arts-and-crafts centre, and lend a hand with a variety of community projects.
Visit the Kingdom in the Sky for amazing alpine scenery and a charming culture not many know about.
