One of the most glam and grand resorts along Thailand's Andaman coast, the Ritz Carlton has plenty to rave about. Just after the sun rises over the bay's iconic limestone sentinels, centre yourself with a spot of yoga on the beach before a hearty breakfast. For adventure-seekers, there are hikes to the sky-grazing Tiger Cave Temple and boat rides to the many nearby island oases. The staff have honed their skills of perception, often showing up with an iced cocktail or readying a candlelit dinner on the sand for that evening. The villas are a delight and it might just be the best night's sleep you've had in years!

The design is classically Thai and features plenty of murals, dark wood interiors and subtle lanterns. For eating, there is a smorgasbord of dining choices, from Thai fusion prepared and served at the Chef's Table, and decadent seafood, to family-style meals infused with ginger, lemongrass and mango. You can even enjoy oven-baked pizzas, inventive cocktails and desserts by the infinity pool if the spice gets too much. When you're in need of pampering, head to the spa for soothing treatments and a soak in the vitality pool, then catch the sunset from a lounger, drink in hand.
The resort has a collection of villas and pavilions, which are all plush, immaculately decorated, and embrace their surrounds with expansive windows. The settings range from beachfront to forested, but each suite has a King-sized bed and pristine bathrooms with deep marble tubs (some are doubles) and shell-shaped basins. Most also have a private infinity pool and spacious sun deck, and the pavilions are ineffable. Your personal butler will look after you at all times, from private dinners to local desserts at turn down.
There's plenty to do on the mainland, from exploring Krabi town by tuk tuk, making floral garlands and watching traditional dance shows, not to mention the many hiking hotspots! Sail across the bay to beautiful Phi Phi Island where snorkelling in the crystalline water is second-to-none, or go kayaking to the 'Gypsy Caves' and see the remains of 100 ancient paintings. A little further away, you'll find the picturesque Phang Nga Bay and its incredible pillars of limestone.
The dining is top-shelf. Don't miss a private supper by the light of 2000 candles (and that's no exaggeration!).
If you buy a fish you'd like for dinner from a local fisherman, the hotel will cook it for you to enjoy that night. How's that for fresh?
Not every villa has a spectacular sea view, so it's worth snagging one right on the beach.
A rugged, beautiful coastline in the south west, made famous by a certain Hollywood movie…
