The riads of Marrakesh all have a history behind them, but the Riad Kniza may be the most fascinating. The 11 suites are rather grand and the heavy silk drapes and delicately-carved ceilings are beautiful, not to mention the carefully found and restored antiques, from painted wedding chests to Oriental paintings. Soothing lighting is provided by traditional lanterns and your King-sized bed either sits under a stucco dome or behind gossamer curtains on a raised platform. Every inch of the rooms are rich in colour and texture, with velvet couches and marble-clad bathrooms. The most sumptuous of them all is the Royal Suite, which is the size of a small house.
The music. Dinners are accompanied by Moroccan love ballads performed by Gnawa musicians. You can even take home the riad's self-made albums as a souvenir.
