Cobblestone walkways lit by hurricane lanterns lead to the main dining and lounge area, where draped canvas tent sides set the classic safari tone. Walls are inset with beautiful wildlife photography and brass statues, while rich leather chairs, rattan couches and elegant ottomans face out into the bush. A large wooden deck is a delight for sundowners. Just below is a swimming pool, perched between the thorn trees and rocks to maximise views of the impressive landscape.
The camp's 20 canvas tents are luxuriously spacious, and richly furnished with plush leather couches, dark, wooden writing desks and classic safari colours and textures. Behind some curtains is a pleasant en-suite bathroom with double basins and a shower. Wooden french doors open up to your private wrap-around verandah, that provides wonderful views of the surrounding bush. Draw up the canvas windows and fill the room with the grunts of hippos, echoing into the night.
Thanks to Migration Camp's incredible location (slap-bang in the middle of the migratory trajectory), between July and November you can expect once-in-a-lifetime game viewing, as hundreds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle perform one of the most impressive wildlife spectacles on the planet. Full-day game drives (with plenty of delicious picnic food to keep you sustained) are a must, as are hot air balloon safaris, and bush walks along the banks of the Grumeti River. Enjoy time spent at the camp by dining al-fresco under the giant, speckled night sky.
