The hotel is opulent, quirky and fun and the main guest areas feel perfectly luxurious, but that you could still wander through in your flip flops from the pool. For munching, choose from the fine-dining Grill Room, or the Ocean Terrace, home of the world-famous (almost!) Curry Buffet, for something less formal. High Tea is nationally revered and an absolute must, as are rooftop drinks overlooking the colourful lighthouse and Indian Ocean. There’s also a lovely spa, where the treatments reflect traditional practises and nibbling slice of carrot cake between appointments is perfectly acceptable.
There are 86 luxurious rooms and suites of different types. The smallest are really quite small, but the sky-blue walls and pretty finishing touches make up for their size. Other rooms are much larger, and the family rooms are fantastic. All rooms have views either of the lapping waves or the hotel’s gardens, and treats include fresh fruit, macaroons and flowers on arrivals and a daily replenishment of magazines and books. Bathrooms are mostly marble, enormous and have fabulous rain showers and tubs.
The Oyster Box has direct access to the beach where guests can swim or sunbathe. There is a swimming pool and an award-winning spa too. The hotel is conveniently located for quick and easy access to other attractions and shopping centres. Other activities can be arranged like helicopter tours of the spectacular coastline, scuba diving in the Indian Ocean, bird-watching in a nature reserve or a fun-filled day for children at a nearby water park.
The Oyster Box is owned by Red Carnation Hotel Collection, which is committed to achieving net zero GHG (Green House Gas) emissions by 2050 through decarbonization. They won the Best Sustainable Business at the Catey Awards 2023. Their sustainability efforts focus on climate, food waste, experiences, diversity and wildlife, promoting responsible practices and ensuring a positive impact on communities and the environment.
