Like all the Elewan Collection of lodges and camps in Tanzania (including Joy's Camp, Elsa's Kopje, Kitich and Lewa Safari Camp), Tortilis is set in an iconic location. In this case it's the western Amboseli, where game viewing is fruitful, accommodation is first-class, the food is Italian-style delicious, the guides are local and there's a responsible attitude towards conservation and the local communities. Here, overlooked by Mount Kilimanjaro, you can see a elephants (lots of them), hippo, lion and other big cats, and plentiful birds.Tortilis is Kenya's first eco-lodge and has won the Tourism for Tomorrow award.

The 16 tents are all sheltered by deep oval thatched roofs. Each has a main bedroom with double or twin beds (which can be pushed together), an en-suite bathroom and a veranda. There's a family tent with a two bedrooma, both with en-suite bathrooms, and a private house with two bedrooms, a roomy sitting/dining area and a veranda. The interiors have hardwood floors, deep beds and lovely fabrics – very welcoming.
Staying here means access to a 30,000-acre private conservancy so you can really escape the crowds and have the wildlife all to yourself.
If you're celebrating something special, let us know. We won't ruin the surprise but you can be sure that all stops will certainly be pulled out...
Sadly, the rooms don't have a view of Kilimanjaro - you'll just have to get your fix of the mountain from the main area instead.
Tortilis Camp Amboseli is owned by Elewana collection which are rooted in the concept of harmony, as reflected in their Kiswahili-inspired name. Through the Land & Life Foundation, Elewana is dedicated to fostering the sustainable coexistence between communities and wildlife across East Africa. Shanga, an initiative under the foundation, empowers individuals with disabilities through artistic expression and economic opportunities, epitomising Elewana's commitment to authentic experiences and positive impact.
