About Vumbura Plains Camp

Authentic safari meets modern luxury in a tried and tested safari formula.
This luxuriously chic camp, situated in a private concession in the northern part of the Okavango Delta, is a big sibling to the smaller, simpler Little Vumbura camp. Situated in an area of floodplains dotted with palm islands and shady forests, it is impressively consistent when it comes to its variety of big game and predators. Firmly placed at the top of the luxury scale, Vumbura stands out from the camouflage of other camps on offer with its minimalist sophistication, its individual attention to detail, and its flexibility towards guests’ needs.

Property details

The property

Vumbura is actually divided into two smaller lodges of seven suites, each with their own separate main areas. Although not identical, the North and South camps are very similar: raised wooden platforms lead into sunken outdoor lounges decorated with soft, earthy-toned cushions. The main areas are organic and natural and feel almost a part of the landscape but with all the mod-cons to make you feel right at home - coffee machines, a well-stocked bar and a refined curation of African-chic ornaments and sculptures. Dining mostly takes place outside on the deck.

The rooms

Vumbura consists of fourteen palatial open-plan suites with contemporary, natural decor. Its clean lines and strikingly simple decor paint a sophisticated picture. The suites, which are raised above the water, are as impressive as their expansive views. Each one is equipped with a beautiful, luxurious interior, complete with a sunken lounge, a private deck and a plunge pool. Indoor and outdoor showers allow guests to make the most of the star-spangled skies, while huge panels of glass make for uninterrupted views of the water.

Activities

Day and night game drives, each offer their own atmosphere and attractions, while guided walks reveal yet another layer of this fascinating piece of Africa. Due to the density of big game, nature walks are at the discretion of the highly-skilled guides. In terms of aquatic activities, you can choose from, seasonal catch and release fishing, serene mokoro (dug out canoe) trips, or boating safaris. All of these are dependent on the ever changing water levels. For a dose of culture, visit one of the villages of the Okavango Community Trust.

Although the camp makes it extremely tempting to stay in and enjoy some R&R, try and drag yourself away for this area has a reputation for some of the best predator and big cat sightings in the Delta.
