Sitting beside the Strait of Magellan, Punta Arenas gazes over frigid waters towards the islands beyond - and indeed, it's very easy to reach their shores for a good helping of hiking amidst sensational scenery. Speaking of which, the Tierra del Fuego archipelago is a wild and woolly playground complete with soaring peaks reaching over 7,000 feet, glaciers and mirror-smooth lakes. Take on some of the most challenging and epic treks on Earth, all the while keeping your eyes peeled for unique birdlife. Your travels may also lead you to colonies of Magellanic and King penguins or Navarino Island, where the chance to traverse the world's southernmost trekking route awaits along the island's 'teeth', the Dientes de Navarino.

What to do in Punta Arenas

Punta Arenas sits on the very edge of the Strait of Magellan, making it an ideal springboard into the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. Pure, rugged Patagonian wilderness awaits, which you'll experience to the fullest on hikes amongst glaciers and Andean peaks. Along the way, look skywards for the island's beautiful birdlife and scan the landscape for muskrats, red foxes and comical guanaco. Or traverse the Beagle Channel, where whales spout from metres away and seabirds fill the air.

Everything was great. I started to put our trip together on my own. Timbuktu was just as cost efficient, their providers were top notch, and they saved me all kinds of time.

Corolla, was excellent, easy to contact and immediately response. This was very reassuring. We had many domestic flights in the country during our travel to Chile, and we had absolutely no problem at the airport. We had airport transfers. Everything went accordingly. I was not happy that we missed the glacier viewing the boat ride in Patagonia, it was a major thing, and I wish that they made me aware of that beforehand. It’s a big thing and the trip was expensive so I would’ve liked to have seen that… but otherwise everything else went seemingly very well. I was happy with the company all in all. The hotels were good as well, thank you
