Running along the border with Mozambique (for a spectacular 300 kilometres no less!), Zimbabwe’s Eastern Highlands are the stuff of dreams. Rolling hills are carpeted in green, lush forests, rugged peaks rise up from swirling mists and waterfalls cascade into deep gorges, rivers and lakes. The highlands are really three different areas - the lolloping tea plantations of the Nyanga (alongside Zimbabwe’s highest mountain, Mount Nyangani), the granite turrets of the Chimanimani Mountains, and the green meadows and coffee bushes of the Byumba range – and each has its owns quirks and charms. It is, however, safe to say that this is an area in which to celebrate the joy of being outdoors and with everything from gentle strolls to epic mountain climbs, bike rides and adventures on horseback, it’s not hard to do.

The bottom line is that Timbuktu planned a fabulous trip for us (two first-time travelers to Africa). Things ran very smoothly during our three weeks in Africa, and we enjoyed every stop and accommodation along the way. Our travel agent took the time to speak with us about what we wanted, and her recommendations were detailed and tailored to what we had discussed. She was also clearly knowledgeable about travel to Africa. We initially came to her with one idea for our trip, but she kindly helped us see that it might be a logistical challenge, and she helped us craft an alternative itinerary that met all our goals and desires. The only qualm we had was with some of the communication during the planning process - our agent was lovely, and very helpful, but occasionally failed to respond to us by the deadlines she gave, and did not let us know what was going on when that happened. To be clear, these issues didn't end up impacting our trip, but it did create some concerns (although minor) before we left. Ultimately, though, it was the trip of a lifetime, and we're very grateful for all the planning help we received! We would recommend Timbuktu to others looking to travel to Africa.

Highly responsive - Meagan was always there click of a button. She ensured diverse dietary preference were met - the food was fantastic; Accommodated our last minute travel changes - even gave us a free room night; Made it a special and memorable trip fro all age group - 12 to 80 years; Even worked with my daughter for surprise birthday celebration! I think this is one of those holidays where i feel parts of my heart was left behind with some of the very special animals we saw & also the warmth of the people - the guides and the hosts!
