What to do in Lake Kivu
A trip to Lake Kivu can mean two things. For many, it’s a laid-back holiday stopover, filled with meandering drives between the shore-side towns and discovering hidden, sandy coves, followed by afternoon swims in the cooling shallows.
Or, you might like to up the ante – and Lake Kivu will provide! The water is completely predator-free and water-skiing, paddle boarding, windsurfing and kayaking trips are all available to be booked. At the more sedate end of the scale, boat trips are perfect for exploring the tiny islands that dot the lake. Each has a different attraction from coffee plantations to overnight camping to colonies of fruit bats. Fishing is also popular (with the added bonus of keeping your spoils), and if you time your fishing expedition just right, you may even encounter the mesmerising ‘singing fisherman’ as they row out for the night.
