What to do in Maputo
This vibrant port city positively hums with multicultural energy. Jacaranda-lined streets lead past colonial buildings where wrought-iron balustrades tell tales of Portuguese architecture at its finest. Pop down side streets to discover Indian spice merchants offering their aromatic wares, while local fishermen conduct their daily trade along the breezy coastal boulevard. The whole place feels rather like a perfectly seasoned dish - Bantu and Portuguese flavours dominate, with delightful hints of Arab, Indian and Chinese influence thrown in for good measure. Spend afternoons people-watching from shady street cafés, then follow your ears to those absolutely legendary music bars when the sun sets.
