What to do in Weligama

A gorgeous stretch of Sri Lanka's southern coastline, Weligama has everything you need for a chilled-out beach break. Find a soft spot to relax in one of the sun-dappled coves, snorkel or surf in crystal-clear waters, or kayak along the shoreline entirely at your own pace. If you're in Weligama between December and April, hop aboard a catamaran and head into the deeper water to spot blue and sperm whales, and dolphins. The sunsets are ravishing and it's not a bad time to see traditional stilted fishermen waiting for a nibble.

Set sail on a stunning, modern catamaran complete with a professional crew and a well-equipped kitchen where the chef will whip you up a delicious full breakfast. In season, there is a 90% chance of sighting blue whales and as soon as one is spotted, you’ll be invited up to the top deck or bow for the ultimate view. Head back towards Weligama Bay, for the chance to try stand-up paddle boarding or snorkelling. At around midday, the chef will serve lunch as you sail to shore.
