9 Instagrammers to help you plan your trip to Africa

Get ready for an Insta-Vacation!

For years planning an African safari has been notoriously complicated and somehow exclusive.

That’s why we at Timbuktu are striving to make it easier to plan a safari, by empowering the traveller to explore and build their own trip, regardless of experience or budget. It is our vision to showcase the beauty of Africa and inspire everyone to travel this incredible continent.

As a part of this mission, we have found a collection of travellers that give insights, advice and inspiration with their fantastic images and stories. Here’s our list of 9 Instagrammers that’ll help you plan your African trip:

1. Bushboundgirl

Rachel was born into a family of wildlife lovers, and nowadays follows her passion as a freelance photojournalist and blogger. Her Instagram feed takes you right into the heart of Botswana, in the Khwai area. Expect lots of great wildlife shots, outdoor showers and authentic on-safari videos. Rachel is a true Africa expert, the kind that you don’t find very often.

2. Zacspeaks

Zac is a travel Instagrammer who captures his adventures in and around Cape Town with his iPhone. If you are looking for a place to watch the sunset or a picturesque road in the area, he will give you lots of ideas. From time to time, he sneaks in a top down food shot to give you a little culinary break in between all this beauty.

3. Discoveringkenya

This account takes you on a virtual journey to the home of the famous Masai Mara. You can delve into amazing camps like Sarara, Giraffe Manor & Campi Ya Kanzi, discovering typical Kenyan food or learning about wildlife conservation in Lewa Downs. No better place to get all the travel inspiration for planning an African safari or particularly a Kenya safari.

4. Craighowes

His Instagram account literally makes South Africa pop in all its beautiful colours. His eye for drone shots of landscape, beaches & nature makes you want to drive the roads he drove, climb the mountains he climbed, and much more. Craig’s images are especially helpful for planning a road trip through South Africa.

5. Bysarahkhan

Sarah is a travel writer who has published great pieces like “36 hours in Cape Town” or “7 days, 1500 Miles in Namibia” for the New York Times magazines. The talented photographer leaves us speechless with his stunning pictures of lodges, activities and magical places. From the island of Zanzibar to the desert of Namibia as far as the Okavango Delta , we can’t recommend him enough.
