About Camp Kuzuma

Elegance, exclusivity and elephants in a quiet corner of northern Botswana
Five-star Camp Kuzuma lies on a small land concession in the 12,000-hectare (and very little-known) Kuzuma Forest Reserve in north-eastern Botswana. What makes this region especially important is its position, for this is the wildlife corridor between Chobe National Park (in Botswana) and Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park. At various times of the year, particularly in the dry winter months, the area sees as many elephants as anywhere in Africa, as the giants move between their two favourite parks. Additionally, the small, strategically placed camp draws wildlife to its own waterhole, making game viewing easy (if somewhat lacking in diversity).

Property details

The property

The canvas-and-thatch open-plan main area consists of a chic dining room and lounge – both outfitted in quality, comfortable furnishings – and an adjacent bar and library. Outside, the wooden deck has both a rim-flow pool and a Jacuzzi. The entire area overlooks a floodlit waterhole, which attracts a steady stream of wildlife, particularly elephants, along with the occasional predator and rare roan and sable antelopes. There's a fire pit for intimate evenings, and an open-sided spa (with elephant views).

The rooms

Seven raised, luxurious tented suites are linked to the main area by elevated walkways. The interiors have polished concrete floors with cow-hide rugs, and are furnished in the finest colonial-safari style. King-sized beds are draped with netting, there's a ceiling fan to cool you, and the canvas flaps can be rolled up or down as you wish. The en-suite bathrooms are all you could dream of, with their double indoor showers, romantic freestanding bath, outdoor shower, and separate toilet.

Activities

Activities focus on morning and evening game drives, with the possibility of a walk in Kuzuma Forest Reserve, all accompanied by a proficient guide and tracker and, on the walk, an armed guard, too. In the dry season (June–November), elephants and other wildlife are easy to come by, but in the summer months game can be harder to find. Take a full-day trip to Chobe National Park for a river cruise, spend hours admiring elephants, or have a massage.
