About Casa do Amarelindo

A quiet rooftop refuge overlooking All Saints’ Bay in the heart of Pelourinho.
The streets of Salvador's historic Pelourinho district vibrate with infectious capoeira dancers and street vendors - and above it all is Casa do Amarelindo, a secret sanctuary behind soundproof French doors that magically silence the carnival chaos outside. A 19th-century townhouse, lovingly-restored by French owners, Gilles and Didier, there are 10 tranquil rooms with balconies that peer out over the city's terracotta rooftops and church spires. A rooftop terrace, complete with a small pool and bar, captures the sunset views across the Bay of All Saints and a pretty restaurant is the perfect spot to end the day.

Property details

The property

The ground floor of the Casa do Amarelindo houses the Pelô Bistrô, where terracotta walls and immaculately laid tables create the perfect setting for the inventive Bahian-French fusion cuisine. An interior courtyard, shaded with ferns and tropical plants, provides a cool, peaceful transition between the street chaos and your room, while the legendary rooftop terrace combines the pool, bar and those panoramic bay views. There’s also a solarium, and a compact fitness centre.

The rooms

The 10 individually decorated rooms blend Bahian colonial style and African influences, with antique dark wood furniture and vibey artwork. Each has a King-size bed, soundproof French doors (essential for Pelourinho survival), aircon, silent ceiling fan, and a Nespresso machine. Most rooms have private terraces or balconies too, with either bay or city views, while bathrooms feature walk-in rain showers and lovely toiletries.

Activities

Casa do Amarelindo is within walking distance of Salvador's greatest hits: baroque churches like São Francisco with its spectacular, gold-leafed interior, the colorful Mercado Modelo, and Elevador Lacerda for spectacular views. The hotel can also arrange in-house tours to experience Candomblé ceremonies (the fascinating local religion that blends Catholicism with West African traditions) and incredible capoeira performances. Outside the door, the Tuesday night street festival and impromptu samba performances are definitely worth a look and there's the daily Balé Folclórico da Bahia show at nearby Miguel Santana Theatre too, offering a polished folklore performances. And, when the Pelourinho energy becomes overwhelming, simply retreat to the rooftop sanctuary for sunset cocktails...

Something to think about

The Pelourinho location is lively and atmospheric and whilst the hotel is mostly soundproof, bring earplugs if you’re sensitive to late-night music or festivities.

Brazil

Salvador de Bahia

Moving to a unique rhythm that pairs equally well with rolling waves & aged cathedrals, this is Brazil in one dashing package.
