Salvador de Bahia Trips & Tours

Moving to a unique rhythm that pairs equally well with rolling waves & aged cathedrals, this is Brazil in one dashing package.
Sitting pretty on a peninsula beside the Bay of All Saints on Brazil’s east coast, Salvador de Bahia is vivacious with a capital V. Today, its plazas spill over with Afro-Brazilian energy and samba beats, but the city also has a deep history, especially if you ride the iconic Lacerda Elevator up to its UNESCO-listed centre, Pelourinho (Upper City). Stroll along cobbled streets lined with pastel-hued buildings and learn all about Brazil’s famous festival at the Casa do Carnaval. Locals say you simply haven’t been to Bahia if you didn’t visit the Basilica do Senhor do Bonfim in the Lower City, while others might say the same if you skip a drink at O Cravinho, famed for its spiced cachaca infusions. In between explorations, bask at the beach, take a private drumming class or join a local chef at the city’s largest open-air market to pick up ingredients for your cooking lesson.
Things to do

What to do in Salvador de Bahia

Salvador de Bahia is an insatiable mix of old and new, which you’ll discover on walkabouts through the city. Ride the iconic Lacerda Elevator to the Upper City, where you’ll find its historic Pelourinho district – visit the diverting Casa do Carnaval and São Francisco Church, and enjoy a refreshing cachaca as samba music fills the air. Locals will tell you (and we wholeheartedly agree) that seeing the Basilica do Senhor do Bonfim in the Lower City is a must. You could also go on a deep dive into Salvador’s rich culture and heritage with a private guide, followed by a spot of shopping at the Mercado Modelo and a tasty seafood dinner overlooking the Bay of All Saints.

Meander through Santo Antônio além do Carmo, a quaint, cobbled and very artsy enclave with colonial forts, churches and stunning views over the bay. Also, pop into the Mercado Modelo for all your souvenir buying.
Something to think about

Something to think about

Taking place in February each year, Carnival is an amazing time to be in Salvador de Bahia, but it’s also the busiest. If you aren’t too bothered about missing the festivities, April and May are quieter months to see the sights.
