In the billowing bivouac tents, you'll find a cosy lounge with enormous cushions beside the fireplace and a candle-lit dining area. Dinner is a jovial affair accompanied by live music, and often features rich Moroccan tagines. Afterwards, spend the evening watching the stars round the fireplace under a woolly Berber blanket. At all times, everything is seen to by one of the camp butlers who will organise an essential oil massage in your tent or a private dinner at The Black Rocks.
On a ridge amongst the creased Agafay Desert, a dozen white bedroom tents are set up with a perfect view of the Atlas Mountains. All are effortlessly but elegantly decorated with fluffy Berber rugs, ochre leather poufs, and trinkets from across north Africa. The King-sized bed dominates the tent, but each also has a desk, wood-burning stove, and plenty of Moroccan candle lanterns scattered around. The bathroom is simple with a solar-heated shower, and outside, there is a lounge under stretched canvas to watch the desert, undisturbed.
When in the Agafay, you explore, and there are a multitude of options at Scarabeo. Sway over the stony hills on a camel or by horseback, join your guide for a walkabout through the desert, or jump on a quad bike - that one will blow the cobwebs away! If you're pressed for time, begin with a camel ride the night you arrive, followed by stargazing with the resident astronomer, a hot air balloon flight at sunrise, and a picnic at the oasis that afternoon.
