About Anurak Community Lodge

Amidst the lush and ancient Khao Sok jungle, Anurak is a lodge at one with the wilderness.
Anurak is the type of place to utterly immerse yourself in nature. Each morning, step out onto your private patio surrounded by endless swathes of palm trees and the forested peaks beyond. You'll use up every bit of sunlight tracing the rivers, jungle trails and caves on adventurous days spent boating across Cheow Lan Lake, following in the tracks of forest elephant or canoeing down green waterways, the cackle of birdlife filling the air. After sipping a few Mai Tais and a hearty Thai dinner, you'll fall asleep to the sound of gibbons calling from the trees, and dream of doing it all again the next day.

Property details

The property

The lodge is centred around the Hornbill restaurant, set in a simple, open-air pavilion with epic views of the jungle. The menu offers a medley of Thai favourites, made with fresh herbs and vegetables from the local market and the lodge's own garden. And Anurak will happily make the dishes as spicy (or not) as you like. Sundowners are enjoyed at the Cloud Season bar with creative cocktails like Anurak for Her - a mix of Bacardi, rum and fruits.

The rooms

Set in stilted bungalows amongst the greenery, there are 20 rooms at Anurak. The style is warm and unfussy with a large, netting-clad bed, a rain shower and natural toiletries and large patio for a morning cuppa. Each room has a ceiling fan and airy design, with air-conditioning for the hottest months. The largest bungalow has room for extra beds for families. The lodge also has two safari tents, raised off the ground with a hammock to enjoy the scenic view.

Activities

Wake at sunrise for a hike to Cheow Lan Lake, a mini ocean at Khao Sok's centre surrounded by towers of limestone, and take a boat ride across its still water. Trek through the forest to find hidden caves and waterfalls, track the footprints of leopard and wild tapir, and spend an afternoon at an elephant sanctuary (be ready to get splashed at bath time). You'll also have the chance to explore local plantations and cook a traditional meal at a nearby farm.

What you'll love

What you'll love

Khao Sok is one of the world's oldest rainforests and with Anurak's eco-friendly ethos, you'll experience this surreal landscape while looking after it too.

Insiders Tip

For a real taste of Thailand, book the Jungle Dinner! You'll learn how the local forest people prepared their meals a century ago, grilling meat wrapped in palm leaves over an open fire and making soup in a bamboo pole.
