Walking through the unassuming black door of the charming three-storey townhouse, you’re met by a sleek lobby, muted lighting and a real mansion-meets-museum vibe. Artworks, rugs and period furniture decorate the common areas, and a huge library features plush leather couches, a fireplace and shelves stacked with all the classics, plus little relics of Argentinian culture. Breakfast is a simple yet delicious affair and there’s an ivy-walled courtyard that’s perfect for enjoying a glass of wine or two before heading out to dinner.
Each of the 11 rooms are exquisitely appointed and themed around an Argentinian icon. Evoking the legacy of each character, the cosy rooms are filled with memorabilia: the “Tanguero” room features sheet music from tango legend Carlos Gardel and an acoustic guitar, while the “Idealist” room, named after Che Guevara, is decorated with black and white photos. All rooms offer King-sized beds, TV, a small desk space and stone-walled bathrooms with walk-in showers. Deluxe rooms are a bit more spacious: the “Idealista” comes with a private terrace, whilst the “First Lady” (after Evita) has a whirlpool tub.
Although tranquil inside, the boutique hotel is a mere block away from the lively hubbub of Palermo Soho, where you’ll find more than a few of Buenos Aires’ trendiest boutiques, eateries and bars. If you want to get a feel of the city’s nightlife scene without having to go too far from your hotel, this is just the place! For a dose of calm, the Botanical Gardens are within walking distance, while the hotel’s library and intimate courtyard also offer ideal respite from the bustling city life.
