About Uncharted Expedition Camp

A mobile camp with serious style that traverses the northern reaches of the Delta.
Mobile camping has to be one of the best ways to experience Botswana's most remote and rugged areas, and there can’t be a much better way to do it than at the Uncharted Expedition Camp. Located in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta, it’s a mobile camp that moves once or twice during your stay, depending on how long you’re there for. And despite the fact that it really is a mobile camp, you can expect the most beautiful of Persian carpets, antique chests and super-soft mattresses to accompany you wherever you go. How’s that for camping?!

Property details

The property

The camp holds true to the ideals of safari legend Jack Bousfield’s original camps, so instead of frills and fluff, you'll discover some serious style and comfort. In the mess tent, sink into slouchy leather sofas with a book, or pull up a canvas chair and settle down for a siesta and wildlife watching. Sumptuous three-course dinners cooked on the fire are enjoyed under the stars, accompanied by the finest wines and the freshest of bread (baked in the ground!).

The rooms

Abandon your ideas of two-person dome tents and cold showers - this is mobile camping in serious style! The 1920s-style bedroom tents are traditional and spacious, and blend bygone comfort with rugged panache. Polished copper water jugs and paraffin lamps are scattered around, and crisp cotton sheets and comfortable feather bedding ensure a deep sleep. Bathroom-wise, all are en-suite with flush loos, and showers replicate those of the early pioneers – a bucket of hot water, warmed on the fire.

Activities

Game drive across the plains, admiring the Okavango's iconic scenery and wildlife, or drift along the maze of waterways in a traditional mokoro. Walking safaris reveal the finer details of the landscape, from the ecology of the waters to the most important components of the ecosystem. All the guides here are qualified biologists, with a minimum of two years guiding experience in the Kalahari, and their knowledge of this pristine wilderness is unrivalled. And remember: because the camp is exclusively yours, it’s up to you how you spend your days…

What you'll love

The food in the camp is something to write home about – think fresh tomato and basil soup, ostrich piccata, roast Botswana beef and the most delectable orange tarts, all in the middle of nowhere!

Insiders Tip

Book three nights or more and spend a night in a mosquito-net tent on a lantern-lit island, with just a thin layer between you and the billion stars of the African night sky.

Something to think about

The camp can only be booked exclusively so if you’re travelling as a pair, the cost can soon skyrocket.
