About Ventus Australis

Follow in the footsteps of the great explorers onboard this luxurious cruise ship.
Designed to cleverly navigate Patagonia’s narrow fjords and icy, glacial channels, Ventus Australis - Latin for “southern wind” - offers an unmatched exploration of South America’s remote and breathtakingly beautiful southernmost tip. First launched in 2018, the swish 210-passenger ship is all about the scenery and showcasing the extraordinary story of everyday survival in one of the most indomitable spots on Earth. To think that Ferdinand Magellan and Charles Darwin at some point, centuries ago, sailed these waters braving the elements is truly mind-blowing. But now you get to do it too, in the utmost comfort and style…

Property details

The property

This voyage is all about wildlife and scenery and there’s plenty of space on board to soak in every last detail of Patagonia, whether it’s from one of the three lounges with their floor-to-ceiling windows, or the panoramic top deck. The smaller Sky and Yamana lounges are perfect for a spot of downtime, while the Darwin lounge offers almost 360-degree views and an open bar - an ideal place to swap stories and meet for the nightly talks. Meals are enjoyed in the spacious Patagonia dining room, usually with the other members of the group.

The rooms

Ventus Australis’ 100 cabins fall into six categories, varying mainly in size and which deck they are located on. Remember, the higher the deck, the better the view! Regardless of category, they are all neat and comfortable with individually controlled heating (essential), ensuite bathrooms with shower and hair dryer and, of course, life jackets. The best part of the rooms, though, is the picture window. Just imagine waking up to those wild and dreamy Patagonian views every morning...

Activities

With itineraries between Ushuaia in Argentina and Punta Arenas in Chile, Ventus sails around some of the planet’s most remote and jaw-droppingly stunning places. You’ll cruise the Beagle Channel, visit Wulaia Bay, marvel at larger-than-life glaciers and enter the legendary Strait of Magellan. Zodiac boats allow for daily shore excursions that include hiking around native forests, visiting glaciers and, weather permitting, disembarking at Cape Horn (again, the ship is the only one that allows its passengers to do so). Activities are made even better by the superb guides, who also offer onboard lectures detailing Patagonia’s incredible flora, fauna and history.

Exploring the (almost) literal end of the earth means you’ll need to give up a TV, phone signal and internet connection. But we’re pretty sure you won’t miss any of them.
