What to do in Jinja

Once whispered about in explorers’ clubs as the “Source of the Nile”, this cheerful little town has given up its secrets and is now known as the adventure capital of East Africa. Adventurous souls are spoiled for choice here: whether you fancy plunging through frothy rapids on a raft (or, if you’ve the nerve, a canoe or even a dinghy), taking a heart-pounding leap on a bungee rope, or racing along the storied river in a jet boat, there’s plenty to raise the pulse. Prefer to keep your feet firmly on the ground—or at least, dry? You’re in grand company. Amidst strikingly beautiful landscapes, you can amble along on horseback, glide peacefully across the river on a boat, or while away an afternoon with a pair of binoculars and a flock of feathery friends.
