The Royal and Ancient Golf Club has been based in St Andrews since 1754, which makes the town's claim to be the Home of Golf very hard to dispute. And the Old Course, with its famous Swilcan Bridge and legendary Road Hole, is as extraordinary as its reputation in every way. But St Andrews has considerably more up its sleeve than the hallowed fairways, as good as they are. Visitors flock to see the ancient architecture and windswept beaches, namely the ruined cathedral, once the largest in Scotland, that perches dramatically on a headland above the sea, and the West Sands, a vast stretch of beach honoured in the opening sequence of Chariots of Fire. The town is also home to Scotland's oldest university, founded in 1413 and the cobbled streets hum with students almost year-round. And just beyond you’ll find the East Neuk of Fife, a collection of beautiful fishing villages strung along the coast and offering some of the best fish and chips in the country.

The chance to walk the Old Course on Sunday morning (it’s closed for play!), crossing the Swilcan Bridge and standing on the 18th fairway with the clubhouse directly behind you.
Scotland's Secret Bunker, a Cold War nuclear command centre buried 30 metres underground and built to house 300 people in the event of nuclear attack, is now open to the public – and it’s extraordinary!
If you want to play, tee times on the Old Course are allocated by daily ballot. Enter the lottery the evening before, find out your fate the next morning, and, if luck’s not on your side, remember that there are five other courses in St Andrews, too.

$50 from every booking goes to female empowerment, tech education, and conservation projects across the countries we love. We have donated $78,000 so far – and it's going up!
Your travel specialist is with you the whole way, dreaming up the trip, building the itinerary, checking you in, and answering the 2am question from the other side of the world..
