What to do in Thai Islands & Beaches

It will come as no surprise that Thailand is lousy with drop-dead-gorgeous beaches, both on its main coast and the islands scattered across the Andaman Sea and Thai Gulf. What's more, there's a destination to suit every taste. Sail between the kohs (islands) and plop down on the beach of your choice, paddle along the coastline, delve beneath the surface on a diving or snorkelling excursion, or hike into the forest to find clandestine caves, temples and waterfalls. Or simply pick a lounger and don't move for as long as possible…

Snorkel with manta rays & whale sharks in Khao Lak

Go on a snorkeling adventure with whale sharks and manta rays at Richelieu Rock. Certainly one of the best dive sites in Thailand, Richelieu Rock is an isolated pinnacle about 10km east of Surin Islands and 100km NNE of the Similan islands. The very top of the rock is just visible at low tide, but submerged at high tide. Below the surface Richelieu Rock is approximately horseshoe shaped consisting of several groups of rocks, pinnacles, overhangs and small caves. Due to the currents sweeping over this pinnacle, there’s not so much hard coral, but plenty of soft coral. The currents can be strong, but it’s easy enough to find shelter on one side of the pinnacle or another, as it covers a large area. It’s too big for one dive, most Liveaboards will include at least 2 dives here.
