Hidden away in the heart of the Bahia region, Chapada Diamantina National Park is nothing short of ethereal. Formerly known as Brazil's diamond rush epicentre, the park now mines something far more valuable – moments of pure awe. Tabletop mountains rise from valleys full of waterfalls and snaking rivers, and underground pools catch the sun’s rays, turning them impossibly blue. Most exploring is done on foot, perhaps to Morro do Pai Inácio, the most iconic spot to be at sunset, or on multi-day treks through cerrado savannah and cloud forests. But that’s far from the end of your adventure and there are scenic horseback rides, canyoning expeditions and breathtaking helicopter flights too. The gateway town of Lençóis preserves its colonial mining architecture in pastel-colored charm, while smaller villages like Vale do Capão have evolved into off-grid havens where organic farming and alternative lifestyles flourish.

Phenomenal scenery abounds in Chapada Diamantina National Park, where tabletop mountains rise from forested valleys and waterfalls tumble in a dazzling display. One in particular, the Fumaça Waterfall, is one of the highest in Brazil and a hike to the top (or heli flip overhead) reveals staggering views. Multi-day treks are extremely rewarding, while exploring incredible caves where pools glow blue in the sunlight is quite unforgettable.

Our trip went without a hitch! Couldn't be happier with the organization of the whole thing. Of course, Meg was fantastic. She gave us so much information up front and spent the time with us to help us figure out what would be best for us and what we really would want to do since it was our first time. I can't say enough about how much we appreciated that as well as how accessible and responsive she was for questions. I think having someone who has been to all the places and really knows how it will be is so helpful to people who have not done a safari before. I definitely would recommend to friends and family to use Timbuktu.
