Khwai
On the northern fringes of the Okavango Delta, there is a beautiful private reserve called Khwai. Currently, there are only three tiny camps in the almost half a million acres of wilderness – and Tuludi now makes four. The camp itself is stylish, sophisticated and refined but the real luxury is the space. From the iconic Delta floodplains, stretching as far as the eye can see in all directions, to the enormous rooms (100 square metres, just for you), to the vast tracts of land reserved for game drives and walking safaris, Tuludi is the place to be for a refined Okavango Delta experience with all the trimmings.

Nestling among the trees and surrounded by waving papyrus grass, Baines' Lodge is properly remote. It lies in the private Stanley Concession, an unspoiled wilderness of 1300-plus square kilometres containing only two camps. Baines' Lodge has been beautifully crafted from wood and canvas topped with local thatch for cooling and to camouflage the buildings, all of which have been constructed on raised wooden platforms above the Boro River, one of the main channels draining the Okavango Delta. Beds with wheels mean that you can spend the night gazing at stars and sleeping under the moon.

A chic safari camp in an exclusive concession in the Delta
At the end of 2017, Wilderness Safaris welcomed another stylish camp to their portfolio: Qorokwe Camp. Located in the exclusive Qorokwe Concession, bordering the renowned Moremi Game Reserve in the south-eastern part of the Okavango Delta, the location certainly ticks quite a few boxes. The remote landscape is rather special too, with crystal-clear waterways, jewel-like islands dotted with palm trees, and dense riverine forests opening out onto wide plains. Wildlife is equally as diverse, and highlights include cheetah, leopard, large prides of lion, even bigger herds of buffalo, elephant and lechwe. So, all the ingredients for a fantastic safari - and the camp certainly doesn't let the side down either!

This five-day trip has it all. Based at their main camp, Kujwana, on the banks of the Xudum River, the safari takes you deep into the western Okavango on horseback – expect around six hours in the saddle on riding days, interspersed with scenic picnic lunches and camp beds for midday siestas (or a dip in the river if you fancy it). But it's not all about galloping across floodplains. Game drives, mokoro trips through the peaceful waterways and leisurely sundowners round out the days, striking a balance between adventure and total relaxation.
