Pafuri Camp

Northern Kruger

19 Rooms
|
From $520 per person/night
Enjoy river views and stylish interiors at this hidden gem in a private Kruger concession.
The northern reaches of the beloved Kruger National Park are amongst the most diverse in the area, and a staggering three-quarters of the park's animal and plant life occur here. Think sparkling floodplains dotted with baobab and mahogany trees, as well as leopard hiding in the fever trees and lion roaming the rocky gorges. And in the midst of it all, in the heart of the Makulele Concession and overlooking the Luvuvhu River, is pretty Pafuri Camp. Despite its 52 beds, there's an intimate atmosphere and a magical safari charm, topped off with excellent guiding and down-to-earth, efficient hospitality. Are we allowed to say it might be one of our favourite camps in the Kruger?!

Kruger Shalati

Southern Kruger

31 Rooms
|
From $560 per person/night
A novel train-hotel located high above the Sabie River and surveying the southern Kruger.
When the Kruger Park’s first warden, James Steven-Hamilton, hosted visitors nearly one-hundred years ago, they would arrive by train. The eccentric entertainer would wine and dine them in the bush in a make-shift boma, complete with live piano music, fine china and rangers pacing the periphery. When it was time for bed, they would retreat back to the train cars to sleep in plush cabins. Kruger Shalati aims to conjure memories of this exceptional history by setting itself in a restored train, right on the now disused Selati Bridge – right where ol’ Hamilton once parked his. Though it's no longer a locomotive (and entirely stationary) this is an arresting destination, with elevated views and exalted hospitality.

|
From $1.6K per person/night
Elegant sundowners and elephant encounters

Centred around a waterhole in the Kapama Game Reserve near Hoedspruit in Limpopo, Camp Jabulani is an exclusive safari lodge in this Big Five landscape. There may be many other camps of similar description in the Greater Kruger Park area, but Jabulani is different – it has a resident herd of trained elephants and is the only camp that offers night safaris on elephant back. Interacting with these intelligent and gracious mammals is a magical experience. The camp is small – there are just six suites – and the service is up there with the very best.
